So Percussion

Innovative, experimental percussion quartet Sō Percussion brings its genre-smashing production to Ingram Hall. The ensemble is signed to Cantaloupe Music, a record label affiliated with celebrated experimental music collective Bang on a Can. In performance, the quartet is known for incorporating unusual and exotic instruments, including bowed marimba, aluminum pipes and, confoundingly, amplified cactus. Two new recordings, Steve Mackey’s It Is Time on Cantaloupe Music, and Steve Reich’s Mallet Quartet on Nonesuch Records, both written for Sō, were released in September 2011.
