The Estrella Consort, a saxophone quartet founded at Arizona State University, will visit the Blair School on Monday, November 16, for a mini-concert and master class with Blair’s saxophone students.
The recital runs 1:10-2 p.m. in Steve & Judy Turner Recital Hall, and the master class runs 2:10-3:20 p.m. in Choral Hall. Both events are free and open to the public, although participation in the master class is limited to Blair students by audition.
About Estrella Consort:
Named after the Sierra Estrella Mountain Range near Tempe, AZ, the Estrella Consort is a saxophone quartet committed to the performance of exciting works, both old and new. The group was founded in 2010 while all members were pursing graduate degrees at Arizona State University, and has performed both nationally and internationally.
In 2011 the Estrella Consort was invited to tour Ecuador as part of a cultural exchange, performing and giving masterclasses in Cuenca, Loja, and Guayaquil. The group has also performed at the renowned Musical Instrument Museum in Phoenix, presented guest artist recitals and workshops at numerous institutions throughout the country including Northwestern University, and performed at the 2014 joint conference of the College Music Society and Association for Technology in Music Instruction. The group frequently performs at the bienneial North American Saxophone Alliance Conferences.
This concert is part of the Estrella Consort’s Fall 2015 Tennessee tour, which includes performances and masterclasses at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville, Vanderbilt University, and Middle Tennessee State Univeristy. In addition the Estrella Consort will be featured at UT-Knoxville’s Single Reed Day.
