For the third year in a row, the Berlin Philharmonic Wind Quintet, the world’s most celebrated woodwind quintet, returns to the Blair School of Music. This year’s residency will be an exciting week of master classes, collaborations, and guest conducting, culminating in two major collaborative concert performances.

The Vanderbilt Wind Symphony performs Mendelssohn’s Overture for Winds, Op. 24, under the direction of Berlin Philharmonic Wind Quintet oboist Andreas Wittman. Quintet clarinetist Walter Seyfarth will perform Carl Maria von Weber’s Concertino for Clarinet with the Wind Symphony. Rachel Rose Farber, soprano soloist with the U.S. Army Field Band and member of the renowned Soldiers’ Chorus, joins the ensemble to perform Gaetano Donizetti’s O Luce di Quest’anima from Linda Di Chamounix, and Giacomo Meyerbeer’s Ombre Légère from Dinorah. Camille Saint-Saëns’ Marche Héroïque, Op. 34, rounds out the program.
The Vanderbilt University Orchestra, under direction of Berlin Philharmonic Wind Quintet flutist Michael Hasel, performs Brahms’ Tragic Overture. Orchestra director Robin Fountain then leads the ensemble in Mozart’s Symphony No. 39.

The evening will include a special double quintet performance with the Blair Woodwind Quintet of Joachim Raff’s Sinfonietta, Op. 188.
