Acclaimed Greek chamber ensemble Galan Trio to appear at Blair

Galan Trio is (L-R) Petros Bouros, Marina Kolouvou, and Babis Karasavvidis.

Internationally acclaimed Athens, Greece-based chamber ensemble Galan Trio will perform at Blair School of Music on Wednesday, March 18, at 8:00 p.m. Renowned for its innovative programming and virtuosic live performances, Galan Trio brings a fresh and energetic approach to classical music.

Formed in 2012, and touring with its present lineup since 2018, Galan Trio features violinist Babis Karasavvidis, cellist Marina Kolouvou, and pianist Petros Bouros. The group continues to expand the chamber music repertoire through its ongoing Kinesis project, which focuses on new works by American composers. Through these collaborations, the ensemble has developed a deeper understanding of each writer’s personal voice and artistic perspective. “Our interaction with the composers has been very inspiring and motivates us to continue doing this work,” said Kolouvou in a recent interview.

The March 18 program will feature “Through Stone Door” by Blair School of Music Professor of Composition Michael Slayton, who will be on hand to introduce the performance. Kolouvou notes the group discovered the piece through careful research aimed at curating programs that are both fresh and aesthetically challenging. “Michael is a nationally acclaimed composer, and we feel very privileged to include ‘Through Stone Door’ in our program.”

“It’s our first time in Nashville,” said Kolouvou, “and we’re really excited to visit a city with such a rich musical tradition across many genres.”

The March 18 concert is free and open to the public, with tickets required. Tickets are available at BlairTickets.com.
