For the second year, Blair School of Music will host the Zildjian US Young Drummer of the Year Competition, a nationwide search to recognize and elevate the brightest rising stars in drumming. The competition culminates with an exciting live event celebrating excellence, creativity, and the future of drumming on October 11, 2026, in Ingram Hall.

The live finals will showcase ten outstanding drummers who have advanced through a nationwide audition process. These young performers will compete before an audience and an esteemed panel of judges comprised of internationally recognized performers, educators, and industry leaders.

“We launched this competition to inspire, discover, and support the next generation of drummers,” said John Stephans, CEO of the Avedis Zildjian Company. “Zildjian’s legacy has always been about empowering drummers at every level, and we’re thrilled to continue this legacy with young musicians across the US.”

Zildjian is honored to partner with Vic Firth, Gretsch Drums, and Remo – three powerhouse names in percussion – to support the event and provide unparalleled resources and mentorship to these promising young players.

“Each year we’re amazed by the level of talent these young drummers bring to the stage. Young Drummer of the Year is about celebrating creativity, dedication, and the future of our drumming community.” said Mike Dolbear, founder, Young Drummer of the Year. “We’re proud to partner with Vanderbilt University’s Blair School of Music and provide these young musicians with the opportunity to perform in front of such an accomplished panel of judges and a passionate audience.”
