master class (‘ma:str klas)

A class taught by an accomplished musician who individually instructs advanced students in performance and technique, often before an audience

Webster’s New World Dictionary

Multiply accomplished musicians and classes by five, and it must mean that the world-renowned Berlin Philharmonic Wind Quintet has returned to the Blair School of Music.

For the fourth year in a row, the group, which became Blair’s newest artists-in-residence last year, gave four days in February to Blair students—in master classes and performances, for musical exploration in public, one-on-one and with chamber groups. The members of the Berlin Philharmonic Wind Quintet maximized every moment they spent at Blair, giving back to Vanderbilt and the community with a performance in Ingram Hall and to Blair students with many hours of coaching and instruction.
