Don’t miss this extraordinary opportunity to witness the diversity Music City is famous for — and we don’t mean the different types of hot chicken!

The Nashville Jazz Composers Collective (NJCC) is spearheaded by Dave Matthews Band saxophonist, composer, educator, author and three-time Grammy winner Jeff Coffin, and boasts some of the finest composers and improvisors. The NJCC is Ensemble-in-Residence at Vanderbilt University.

The NJCC comprises more than 30 of Nashville’s most respected musicians. NJCC members have recorded, performed and toured with Weather Report, Bela Fleck & the Flecktones, Frank Zappa, Dave Matthews Band, Genesis, Phil Collins, Max Roach, Kirk Whalum, Snarky Puppy, Herbie Hancock, Charles Lloyd, Rufus Reid, Chick Corea, Mike Stern, Nashville Symphony Orchestra, Kansas City Symphony Orchestra, Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, My Morning Jacket, Larry Carlton, Vince Gill, Amy Grant, Tony Bennett, David Liebman, Alabama, Jeff “Tain” Watts, The Neville Brothers, Willie Nelson, Michael W. Smith, Pete Fountain, Matchbox 20, Phish, Ben Folds, Branford Marsalis, Take 6, Kid Rock, Garth Brooks, Harry Connick Jr., Michael McDonald, McCoy Tyner, Stanley Clark, Prince, Aretha Franklin, Bob Mintzer, Cage The Elephant, John Scofield, Van Morrison, Robben Ford, Nelson Riddle Orchestra, Herb Ellis, George Russell, Randy Brecker, Donald Brown, Gary Burton, Marvin Stamm and more.

For more info and personnel, visit the NJCC website.

With the NJCC this evening is MacArthur Grant recipient and reed master Ken Vandermark, with his band Made To Break. This is Ken’s first concert in Nashville, and you don’t want to miss out! Made To Break is improviser/composer Vandermark’s newest ensemble and his most radical. Combining elements of his interest and experience with the music of Ethiopia and the Ex, alongside the New Music ideas of John Cage and Morton Feldman, and mixing these with his perspective toward jazz and improvised music history, he has devised a compositional framework for the band that can be restructured for every performance and deals with melody, sound and rhythm in a unique way.

Opening the show is the Nashville School of the Arts Big Band, under the direction of Nashville newcomer Glenn Fuggett. The Nashville School of the Arts is committed to leading the nation in the integration of arts and academics, and recently saw two of its students qualify for the finals of American Idol! We are very excited to involve and showcase some of the up-and-coming younger members of our musical community during this incredible night of music.

Musical selections will be announced during the performance.
