Just got into the hotel in Shanghai after a few minor snafus — nothing dramatic. Thirty-six hours of travel later, I’m so excited just to shower. Less excited about waking up at 5 a.m. tomorrow morning for another plane ride.
“Minimally tolerable” probably best describes the plane ride from San Francisco to Shanghai. They actually held the plane for us for us a little bit, since our Chicago to San Fran flight was delayed. Other things that were delayed during our flight were snack times.
Other things that made the flight minimally tolerable include the toddler sitting in front of me, amazingly able to scream for what seemed like 14 hours straight. Funny thing is, the only time her mother seemed to make any effort to do something about it was when she decided to get up and walk down the aisles during takeoff. I mean, DURING takeoff. I was getting ready to leap up and catch them because the wheels were lifting off the ground when they made an announcement over the loudspeaker ordering her to sit down immediately.
All things considered, I slept a little, read a little, watched a little TV, played some mindless iPhone games.

It’s 5 a.m. in Shanghai, and we’re all congregated downstairs ready to go to … wherever it is we’re going. Not really clear on that bit. They’re taking our luggage, and we’ve packed overnight bags for the next day or two. Waking up wasn’t so bad. Sorry if blog is incoherent and/or boring … we’re tired!
