Violist Daniel Reinker presents an evening of trios that spotlight the viola, with guest performers Christian Teal and Mary Kathryn VanOsdale, violins; Kathryn Plummer and Sarah Cote, violas; Licia Jaskunas, harp; and Erik Gratton, flute.
Zoltán Kodály’s Serenade for Two Violins and Viola is a dynamic, virtuosic piece for an unusual instrumentation, drawing on Hungarian folk songs and folksong style. Claude Debussy’s Sonata for Flute, Viola and Harp is one of the composer’s last works. Henryk Górecki’s Muzyczka 3 for Violas, which caps the program, was written in 1967 for any multiple of three violas, and Reinker says it requires the performers to untune their instruments. An unusual and engaging evening!
8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 25, in Steve and Judy Turner Recital Hall.
