On Wednesday, October 9, the Nashville Scene released the winners of its 2013 Best of Nashville awards, and Blair School-affiliated artists took home a record-setting nine awards: eight Writers Choice awards, plus a Readers Choice award.
Senior Lecturer Peter Cooper won the Readers Choice award, voted Best Music Writer by the Scene‘s readers.
Signature faculty ensemble The Blakemore Trio won Best Classical Album for The Blakemore Trio Performs Beethoven and Ravel.
Composer Michael Alec Rose won Best New Orchestra Composition for his Sedentary Dances: Scenes for Cello and Orchestra (which has yet to actually be played by an orchestra!).
VORTEX Percussion won Best Modern Performance for its presentation of George Antheil’s Ballet mécanique.
The Nashville Symphony won Best Concerto Performance for Edgar Meyer’s Double Concerto for Violin, Double-Bass and Orchestra. (Meyer is Adjunct Associate Professor of Bass at Blair.)
The Nashville Symphony also won Best Orchestral Performance for Mahler’s Symphony of a Thousand, which included the Blair Children’s Chorus program.
ALIAS Chamber Ensemble‘s Matt Walker won Best New Chamber Music Composition for Yo-Yo Joe.
Blair-affiliated musicians were part of Nashville Ballet‘s production of Macbeth, which won for Best New Dance Production.
Blair-affiliated musicians were also involved with Nashville Opera’s production of David Lang’s The Difficulty of Crossing a Field, which won for Best Opera Production.
