Vanderbilt Percussion Group performs March 20 at Blair, April 1 at Frist Center

Vanderbilt Percussion Group is the Blair School of Music percussion studio’s premier performing ensemble, directed by Ji Hye Jung. VPG’s repertoire includes contemporary works for unconducted chamber percussion ensemble.

VPG’s spring program includes music that resonates with listeners from all backgrounds, with styles ranging from classical to jazz to R&B and tango. The concert features works by Pulitzer-winning American composer David Lang and Argentine composer Astor Piazzolla. Jason Trueting of So Percussion transports listeners to modern-day Brooklyn, while John Psathas’ Kyoto channels Keith Jarrett’s jazz piano improvisations.

VPG performs at 8 p.m. Sunday, March 20, in the Blair School’s Ingram Hall, and at 6 p.m. Friday, April 1, in the cafe at the Frist Center for the Visual Arts. Both performances are free and open to the public.
