The Silent Voices Project is a program through which very young contemporary composers write string quartets and trios based on poetry written by children who died in concentration camps during the Holocaust. The pieces have been performed in concerts in Canada and the U.S., and an album was released in November 2017.
Blair’s Suzuki program director Zachary Ebin is the artistic director of the project, which features performances by Toronto’s Ton Beau String Quartet and narrator Gershon WIllinger.
“The Silent Voices Project seeks to revive the voices of children silenced by the Nazis through the voices of contemporary children,” says Ebin. “In the project, young composers create chamber music based on poetry written by children during the Holocaust. To date, the project includes composers age 10-20 from Toronto, Waterloo, Cleveland, Chicago and Philadelphia.”
