New York ensemble Contemporaneous will premiere works by Blair alumna Lila Meretzky (BMus’20) on February 27, 8:00 p.m. ET, at performance venue Roulette in Brooklyn. The program, Songs at Night, is centered around Meretzky’s new large-scale song cycle drawing on the poems of Yiddish-language poet Anna Margolin. The piece has a unique Blair connection, as it contains music originally meant to comprise her Vanderbilt senior composition recital, which was canceled due to the pandemic.
Born and raised in New York, Meretzky is a composer, educator, and visual artist. She works primarily in chamber, vocal, electronic, and electroacoustic mediums, as well as in music for dance, film, and installation. While at Blair School of Music she co-founded a music concert series called A Humming Under My Feet. In addition to her Vanderbilt degree, Meretzky holds Master of Music and Master of Musical Arts degrees in composition from the Yale School of Music.
A livestream of the February 27 event will be available on YouTube and archived for future viewing. Watch on YouTube
