Blair students excel at MTNA Southern Competitions

Congratulations go to a trio of Blair students who received awards at the 2025 MTNA Southern Division Competitions: Kevin Cho, Maxwell Van Hoeij, and Matthew Phan.

Kevin Cho – Winner, Young Artist Piano. A student of Heather Conner, Kevin is a senior in Arts & Sciences, majoring in medicine, health, & society with a minor in music performance.

Maxwell Van Hoeij – Winner, Young Artist String. Maxwell, a student of Connie Heard, is a senior violin performance major.

Matthew Phan – Alternate, Senior Piano. Matthew is a first-year piano performance major, studying with Heather Conner.

Kevin and Maxwell will advance to the MTNA National Competitions, March 15-19, 2025, in Minneapolis, Minn. Matthew will move on if the division winner does not compete at the national level.

The MTNA National Competitions are the most successful and prestigious student competitions in the country. Each year, thousands of students compete for top prizes and national recognition. The purpose of the Music Teachers National Association Performance Competitions is to provide educational experiences for students and teachers and to recognize exceptionally talented young artists and their teachers in their pursuit of musical excellence.
