Blair Big Band to present collaborative concert event: New Groove

The Blair Big Band will showcase the immense talent of the Blair School of Music faculty with an ambitious collaborative concert event, “New Groove,” on Friday, February 7, 2025, in Ingram Hall. The program will feature guest performers from across Blair’s areas of study, including Dean Melissa Rose, piano; and Grammy-winning saxophonist Jeff Coffin. Other faculty special guests will include Molly Barth, flute; Hailey Clark, voice; Pat Coil, piano; Ji Hye Jung, marimba and vibraphone; Rod McGaha, trumpet; Jose Sibaja, trumpet; Sabrina Tabby, violin; and African music group, the Yeti Ensemble.

Directed by Ryan Middagh, the award-winning Blair Big Band performs a diverse repertoire that includes classic big band standards, modern jazz compositions, and original works by its members. One of the premier collegiate jazz ensembles in the country and recently named Best Big Band by the Nashville Scene, the Big Band has been honored with 13 DownBeat Student Music Awards and was a top-four finalist at the prestigious 2023 Jack Rudin Jazz Championship in New York.
