Marc Widenhofer

Adjunct Instructor in Global Jazz Studies

Marc Widenhofer is an in-demand jazz drummer and educator in Nashville. As a versatile jazz drummer, Widenhofer has performed with Houston Person, Roger Pemberton, Ron Bridgewater, Janguen Bae, Bert Ligon, Chip Stephens, Larry Gray, Chip McNeil, The Ryan Middagh Jazz Orchestra and was a featured artist headlining the 2012 Taichung International Jazz Festival with the JB Trio and Greg Osby.

Widenhofer has also toured internationally throughout China with Nashville-based band Denver and the Mile High Orchestra, recording their 2017 release Live from China! (DMHO). Currently, Widenhofer maintains an active performing schedule in Nashville, including leading his own quartet made up of some of Nashville’s finest musicians.

An active educator and clinician, Widenhofer has held teaching positions at the University of South Carolina-Columbia, Lander University, USC-Aiken and Greenville College. In addition to his teaching positions, Widenhofer has conducted master classes focusing on jazz drumming and group performance concepts within the jazz idiom at Millikin University and the University of Minnesota, Morris. Widenhofer is currently on the faculty at Vanderbilt University in the Blair School of Music as part of the Global Jazz Studies Department.

Passionate about developing the total musician, Widenhofer seeks to help each individual musician find their unique voice on the drum set. Widenhofer’s students have gone on to have successful careers in the ever-expanding music industry as both performers and educators.
