Edgar Meyer and Dashon Burton claim new Grammy Awards

It was a big night for Blair School of Music as faculty members Edgar Meyer and Dashon Burton added to their Grammy Award collections at the 66th annual ceremonies in Los Angeles.

Edgar Meyer was honored with two Grammys—for Best Global Music Performance and Best Contemporary Instrumental Album—through his collaboration with Bela Fleck and Zakir Hussain, featuring Rakesh Chaurasia. He was also nominated for Best Instrumental Composition. The latest awards bring Meyer’s Grammy total to 7 wins and 13 total nominations.

Dashon Burton received his third Grammy Award as a member of groundbreaking vocal ensemble Roomful of Teeth. Its latest album, Rough Magic, was awarded top honors for Best Chamber Music / Small Ensemble Performance.

 

In other related news, we celebrate with Jessie Montgomery as she was awarded her first Grammy for Best Contemporary Classical Composition. A beloved collaborator with Blair faculty and students, Montgomery recently concluded a three-year Vanderbilt residency program, capped with an unforgettable performance in Ingram Hall in November 2023.
