The Band’s Visit, a musical about an Egyptian orchestra stuck for a night in a remote Israeli town, swept the Tony Awards on June 10, winning 10 awards including Best Musical.
The show’s small cast, which features Katrina Lenk and Tony Shalhoub in the lead roles, also features Blair alumnus Jonathan Raviv (B.Mus. ’03 in vocal performance) in the role of Sammy, the former lover of Lenk’s Dina, who owns the local cafe.
Raviv was in the original cast of the critically acclaimed world premiere at the off-Broadway Atlantic Theater Company, which ran December 8, 2016 through January 8, 2017. The Broadway production opened in November 2017.
