Audition Information

MUSE 1020 Symphonic Choir

To join Symphonic Choir for the Fall, simply register for MUSE 1020. If you are a returning student who has participated in Symphonic Choir before, simply register for the course and you will be contacted about whether or not an audition hearing is needed. If you are a new student, you should also register for the course, however you will need to complete an audition by appointment during the first week of classes according to the parameters below. These auditions can be scheduled by filling out this online information form. The link to sign up for an audition is on the last page of the questionnaire.

If you are a MUSIC MAJOR or MINOR and your primary instrument is voice, please prepare:

  • One art song, memorized or not. Bring two copies of music. A pianist will be provided.
  • Moderately difficult (but melodic) sight-reading, on solfege or neutral syllable -- your choice.

If you are a MUSIC MAJOR or MINOR and your primary concentration is instrumental, please be prepared to:

  • Vocalize, and sight-read melodic examples on solfege or neutral syllable -- your choice.

If you are NOT a MUSIC MAJOR or MINOR, please prepare:

  • One art song, memorized or not. Bring two copies of music. A pianist will be provided.
  • Vocalize, and sight-read melodic examples on solfege or neutral syllable -- your choice.

MUSE 2120 Vanderbilt Chorale

Vanderbilt Chorale has already completed auditions for Fall, however the group will be re-auditioned for Spring. If you would like to be considered for re-auditions in the spring, please click this link and fill out the returning student questionnaire. The link to the audition form can be accessed here. Students new to Vanderbilt Choirs cannot be considered for Chorale - at least one semester of past participation in Symphonic Choir is required. Audition repertoire will be chosen from this fall's concert literature, as well as advanced sight-reading and vocalization emphasizing flexibility.

MUSE 1330 Blair Jazz Choir

Christina Watson, Director. Open to all undergraduate students, however an audition is required. Students should register first, and will be contacted about scheduling an audition prior to the start of the semester. Questions should be directed to Ryan Middagh, director of the Jazz Studies Program at Blair.

Ensemble Dress Code

Option 1:  Black tuxedo, black collared button-down shirt, white tuxedo shirt, standard sized black bow tie, black socks, black shoes

Option 2:  'Laurent' dress from Stage Accents. $68 for dress plus shipping and tax (no satin flower required). We will size during the second week of classes and you will be responsible for ordering. A stitcher will come in (once you've ordered) and hem your dress for $20 cash. 

Option 3: Conservative, ankle-length black dress, black skirt (no slits), or black dress pants with long sleeved black blouse, closed-toe black shoes.
