AP and IB course credit

Credit earned through Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate tests usually allows students to fulfill liberal arts requirements, providing more flexibility in course selection.

Advanced Placement

Scores from Advanced Placement Examinations are received by the Blair office in August, not before.

Due to the late reporting of freshmen's most recent scores, students should register for courses as if no credit has been earned. Changes may be made once scores are received by the school. The Music Theory AP exam does not earn credit for B.Mus. students.

A score of 6 or 7 on the Music (standard) Exam earns credit for MUSL 140 (3 credits), but only for students who are not pursuing the Bachelor of Music degree. B.Mus. students do not receive credit for this course.

Transfer Credit

Credit for courses taken at another institution must be approved in advance by Associate Dean Melissa Rose. Credit for pre-freshman college work may also be given, subject to evaluation and approval by the Associate Dean.

Vanderbilt credit will not be awarded for the course(s) if the student received credit toward high school graduation or if the majority of students enrolled in the course were high school students. Reference the Undergraduate Catalog regarding this Vanderbilt policy.
