Private Music Instruction

Blair Academy welcomes students of all ages and abilities, from young beginners to advanced performers. Private instruction is offered in voice, piano, orchestral instruments (strings, woodwinds, brass and percussion), folk instruments (fiddle, mandolin, guitar, dulcimer and banjo) and jazz instruments (guitar, piano and drums).

Our acclaimed faculty have a reputation for personal excellence and for their commitment to students as developing musicians and human beings. Many faculty members teach both Blair Academy and university students, highly valuing their involvement with both.

Students who are interested in private lessons should first email the Blair Academy Registrar, Rachel Hobbs or call her at 615-322-7655. After a brief interview, students will be directed to contact a faculty member for a placement interview before registration. Summer 2020 online private instruction

The Blair Academy summer semester begins May 4, 2020. Students may register for as few as three lessons and as many as 15, after confirmation with the instructor. Summer need-based scholarships are available. Learn more about the summer scholarship program.

Due to ongoing health concerns related to the COVID-19 novel coronavirus, private instruction for Summer 12020 will be conducted online, via Zoom, Facetime and/or Skype. Your instructor will provide specific information.

Tuition per lesson for all orchestral Instruments, plus piano, guitar and voice:

30-minute weekly lessons: $89
45-minute weekly lessons: $110
60-minute weekly lessons: $141

Tuition per lesson for all folk instruments (fiddle, mandolin, dulcimer, banjo):

30-minute weekly lessons: $53
45-minute weekly lessons: $75
60-minute weekly lessons: $100

 

Fall 2020 private instruction

privateThe Blair Academy semester is 16 weeks, which includes 15 lessons and a jury/performance exam. Tuition listed covers the full 16-week semester. New students may apply for a need-based scholarship at the time of registration. Learn more about our scholarship programs.
